DIVERSITY

If you want to see diversity, Tarpey is the spot.
Our school and community is one huge melting pot.
We come from near, we come from far.
No matter where we come from, we are proud of who we are.
We are no different on the inside, you and me.
We are only different on what people can see.
We are different colors, and don’t look the same.
We wear different clothes, and have different names.
Some speak Spanish and some speak Hmong.
Some can stomp and others sing songs.
In spite of our differences, we all get along.
If everything is perfect, then something is wrong.
We have become good friends, with each passing year.
As our friendship grows our differences begin to disappear.
We laugh at the good times, and cry during the sad.
We even dislike each other, get angry or mad.
Diversity has taught us a lesson or two.
Do unto others, as you want done to you.
Appreciate people for who they are, not who we want them to be.
Celebrate the differences, and only then can we be free.
Grab onto diversity, let the hatred go.
Then, and only then will the love flow.
We are who we are, and that should be enough.
If you don’t think so, then too bad, that’s tough.
Tarpey is diverse, in every which way.
Diversity is here, and here to stay.
